Resident Association
Each public housing community elects members of its own residents to serve three-year terms on its Resident Association. The purpose of Resident Associations is to expand the participation by residents in the management of housing development affairs and in programs designed to improve community life.
Resident Associations act as the official representative body for all residents of a housing development. Resident Associations meet on a regular basis to improve their living environment by virtue of resident self-help activities. They also help develop social and economic empowerment programs to help the residents attain self-sufficiency. The Resident Associations also elect members to the Jurisdiction Wide Resident Council (JWRC). This body represents the interests of all public housing residents and significantly improves the channels of communications among residents and the HACEP staff and Board of Commissioners.
The Housing Authority provides technical assistance and training to resident association members. This includes orientation sessions and other training such as the Multicultural Leadership Training and Developing Leadership Councils.
