Rental assistance through one of HACEP's housing programs is limited to low-income families and individuals. Public housing authorities (PHAs) like HACEP use income limits developed by HUD to determine if the family qualifies for assistance. The low income limits are set at 80 percent of the area median income (AMI), very low income limits are set at 50 perecent of AMI, and extremely low income limits are set at 30 percent of AMI for the county or metropolitan area in which you choose to live. Income limits vary from area to area so you may be eligible at one PHA but not at another. To qualify for the Public Housing Program, applicants must earn no more than 80 percent AMI; to qualify for the Housing Choice Voucher Program, applicants must earn no more than 50 percent of AMI.
